"LJ909" (lj909)

With our close proximity to Mexico, we get to see some interesting models here in Southern California. The other day for instance, I saw something called a Honda City, which looked to be a sedan version of a Fit. But from my research it looks like its either a tad smaller than the Fit or inbetween the Fit and Civic.
But anyway, I saw this small truck thing the other night at a local grocery store. It had Ram/Dodge badges on it. Its like a mini Subaru Baja.

It’s a RAM 700
https://www.ram.com.mx/700/2018/
which I believe is the same as a Fiat Toro,
which is based on the Renegade/Compas platform.

If I’m not mistaken that’s a Fiat based Ram 700.
https://www.ram.com.mx/700/2018/
According to the website, it can carry, and I shit you not, 1500 pounds of cargo

That alone is reason enough for it to come here. But like I said to someone else, who would this be for?

It’s a RAM 700, which is a rebadged FIAT Strada pickup.

Well, border state cars can indiscriminately enter the US, maybe the guy lives in Tijuana and wanted to pick up sweet cheap american gas or sweet unrestricted sugary american food... who knows?
Whomever was driving it bought it because it’s cheap.
here in Mexico it’s a great compromise because we don’t need the light duty trucks for most things anyway, so they buy them like you guys would buy a ranger: as a compromise... except this truck has a 4 cylinder engine.... and probably doesn’t pass US saftey standards

It seems the RAM 700 is actually based on the previous Fiat Strada Pickup platform,
the Toro, which replaces the Strada, is based on the Renegade/Compass platform... the old Strada was/is a beefed up super-mini based on the Palio Wagon

The top pic he posted was also the ‘FIAT version’, as you put it - they looked exactly the same except for a literal rebadging - the Strada top pic is of the rebadged RAM, but the RAM 700 is based on the Strada, NOT the Toro. The Toro is a completely different vehicle.

Yea I never understood how these Mexican cars drive around freely like that. I mean I dont have a problem with it because a lot of times the models are interesting. I just think they’d be scared you know? Most times though they are from Baja.

Who would be scared?
Tens of thousands of Mexicans and Americans work across the border, it’s actually not hard to get a visa into the US (never mind a fast pass) if you can prove you don’t want to stay there.... hell, I don’t even need to swipe my fingers through the scanner in TSA half of the time because I go there so often and I’ve had a Visa ever since I could print my fingerprint!
In Fact, San Diego and Tijuana share an international airport... it’s actually kind of cute...

The current Renegade is similar in exterior dimensions to an XJ cherokee. I see no reason we couldn’t put a Renegade suit on a Toro and call it a Comanche.
